A drill to work on doubling teaming to turn over the ball when playing two players up in defence.
Drill Description:
Start with 4 attackers and 6 defenders.
The ball starts at midfield. The attacks needs to get a shot off or get the ball behind the goal to receive a point.
The 6 defenders work on trying to double team and pressure the ball.
As soon as there is a change in possession, the original (6) defenders must work the ball up past midfield against the pressure from the scrambling attackers.
If the attack are successful in getting the ball behind the goal, the ball carrier drops the ball and there is a change of possession for the defense to work the ball out.
This drill is excellent for conditioning and handling pressure in transition.
Variations
Take out 1 defender to make a 4 v 5 situation. Defence should still double.
Send in extra attacker when defence is clearing the ball.
Skills Practiced:
• Double teaming in transition
• Communication in defence
• Moving ball away from goal
